Who is Catchlight Energy?

Catchlight Energy is a joint venture between Chevron and Weyerhaeuser.

In February 2008, these two leaders came together, leveraging the strengths of both — Weyerhaeuser’s expertise in innovative land stewardship, resource management and capacity to deliver sustainable cellulose-based feedstocks at scale with Chevron’s technology capabilities in molecular conversion, product engineering, advanced fuel manufacturing and fuels distribution.

Catchlight Energy reflects the parent companies’ shared view that cellulosic biofuels can fill an important role in diversifying the nation’s energy sources and addressing global climate change by providing a source of low-carbon transportation fuel.

Our mission is to commercialize large scale production of liquid transportation fuels from sustainable forest-based resources.

Opportunities

Achieving scale production of biomass for energy — tens of millions of tons annually

Demonstrating with science-based analysis that the model is genuinely sustainable

Discovering, developing, licensing and implementing commercially viable conversion technology that is compatible with present transportation fuel requirements

Building the logistics capability and infrastructure to collect, process and distribute both feedstocks and products
