Initial Focus

Catchlight Energy will focus on accelerating the commercial and economical development of cellulosic biofuels to meet future energy demands.

The start-up phase will focus on research and development —discovering, developing and/or acquiring commercially viable conversion technology.

Catchlight Energy is committed to establishing a successful commercial footprint as soon as possible, focusing on the United States. With the backing of its parent companies, Catchlight Energy has the resources needed to bring innovative and sustainable products at meaningful scale to the marketplace over time.

Strategy

Both Chevron and Weyerhaeuser will contribute resources including funding, technology and employees to Catchlight Energy.

The research and technology performed at Catchlight Energy will address a range of fuels:

• Ethanol and other alcohols
• Hydrocarbons
• Intermediates

Key Steps

We will develop the planting, cultivating and harvesting systems for forestry-type feedstocks. These systems, along with expertise in plant breed improvement, can improve yield for large-scale conversion processes.

We will apply both in-house and external conversion technologies, while assuring product quality.

We will address logistics and infrastructure aspects of the entire biofuels value chain, from biomass handling to product marketing and distribution.

Meeting these objectives will provide the foundation for Catchlight Energy to expand, adapt and bring to market a solution for diversifying the nation’s energy sources.
